Essay Questions for You to Practice on...

Greetings fellow worshippers at the altar of Enlightenment!!

After some feedback from your mates, I’ve decided to post some Essay questions here so that you can use them as practice for mind-mapping and essay planning over the weekend. Just one advice, this time round, give yourself only a 10 minute limit for every question you plan, and try and improve on the elaboration of points with each try.

Here goes…

Crime

1.Consider the arguments for and against the death penalty in a modern society
2.There can never be crime without temptation. To what extent is this statement true?
3.To what extent can crime in society be linked to the pressures of modern life?
4.‘The key to ending crime is the alleviation of poverty.’ Do you agree?
5.‘Punishment must fit the crime.’ To what extent is this reflective of the way we deal with young criminals today?
6.Crime does not pay. Do you agree?
7.Should the police have unlimited powers when dealing with crime?

Environment

1.What are the main environmental problems that your country faces and how can they be overcome?
2.“Man’s actions are making the earth increasingly inhabitable.” Do you agree?
3.“The root of all environmental problems is over-population.” Discuss.
4.“Materialism is the single most important cause of the world’s deteriorating environment.” Do you agree?
5.“Man’s attempts to save the environment are doomed.” Discuss.
6.“Everyone wants a clean environment but few people are prepared to sacrifice anything to achieve it.” Discuss.
7.“If man is the worst thing for the environment, he is also its best hope.” Discuss.
8.“To save the environment, what is needed is not a change of policy, but a change in attitude.” To what extent is this true?

Science and Technology

1.Discuss the benefits and disadvantages which technological development is likely to have upon education in the near future.
2.Is a world dominated by science a dream or nightmare for future generations?
3.“The only future for the car is its elimination.” Discuss
4.Can the transplanting of animal organs into human beings ever be justified?
5.Is a sound knowledge of science and technology essential for a well-educated person in today’s world?
6.“Science never provides solutions – it only poses more problems.” Is this a fair comment?

Globalisation
1.Will local cultures fall victim to a global culture constructed along Western lines?
2.Will the rise of the English language put an end to other languages?
3.Will a common global culture result in shared values and greater unity?
